Unlike the GD77 which has a limitation of 16 channels per zone (same as many other DMR radios), I was able to put as many as 61 channels (tried 200 or more is possible) in one zone, which allows me to group, and thereafter access or scan all the local analog repeater frequencies in the area I live.

Just set up the USB port with the appropriate driver for my Windows 7 PC (just like the GD77) install the CPS and read the radio to get a template to import the data I have used to program the GD77 via csv files in Excel. After using the D868 extensively in the past 2 months, I am now convinced that the D868 is worth its price at twice as much as the GD77.įirst of all the D868 is not difficult to set up and use.

As soon as I read about the D868 I ordered one from Bob of letsgetready immediately. The GD77 is fine for its price as a dual band radio, with similar functionality and limitations as other DMR radios at that price point. I bought the GD77 and got into DMR in October 2017, without knowing the AnyTone AT-D868UV.

It just feels so good in your hands.ĭon't even hesitate to purchase this radio, it is fantastic! Read full review I have had over a dozen HT's, currently posses 7 HT's at the moment, and can tell you with a straight face this is my favorite HT I have ever owned. I was pleasantly surprised with this HT and recommend this for anyone interested in DMR. I keep the key press beep off normally, but it was something I noticed and felt like mentioning.Īll in all this radio is fantastic for it's price range and even for radio's double its price. If you have the beep option on for any key press, you can hear a high pitch frequency whine each time you press a key with the backlight at a lower brightness setting. I did notice something strange with the key beep setting and the brightness of the screen. The screen is very bright and easy to read. FM analog reception is quite clear as well and performs as expected. The DMR sound quality is very crisp and clear, I actually prefer it to the Motorola's personally, as I feel the audio levels have better equalization depending on the station transmitting. This radio was actually a bit smaller than I was expecting, which is a good thing in my book, and believe me when you get one in your hands and feel the weight of the unit you will be HOOKED. PTT key is a good size and the extra programmable function keys are extremely handy. I have no issue plugging in frequencies in VFO. The button spacing and size is great, especially for someone with larg er hands. The buttons and keypad have a nice tactile feel to them and are very responsive.

The only thing 'cheap' about this radio is the belt clip, everything else about it is quite impressive. The build quality shocked me, it is a very premium commercial grade material, and has a nice solid weight to it.

The software is very straight forward and easier to program because of this. The programming software is a bit bare bones compared to say the TYT or Motorola CPS, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. It was a bit tricky to get the updated firmware on there, but once that was plugged in this radio was very easy to program. I bought this radio after experiencing some issues with a couple Motorola XPR-3500e radios that I have.
